The Boulder County Fair!

Shannon and I had a blast at the 4H Fair. It was our second year, and we decided to add MORE birds this year. We had originally planned to bring a lamb this year, but being effectively homeless and having a lot of issues to deal with regarding the house, I just couldn't add another project, so we stuck with the birds.

We decided to bring 4 turkeys, a pair of Bourbon Reds and a pair of Black Spanish. We brough an egg production pen of Black Australorp hens and an Australorp Roo (the son of Fireball). We meant to bring a pen of Cochin/Orpington hens, but decided they were too much of a mess with molting that we left them home. We brought a pair of Motled Houdans (Cookie and Cookies and Cream), the rooster was Shannon's showmanship bird. We brought two breeding pairs of Welsh Harlequin ducks and brought a pair of Pekins. We meant to bring Hahn, a bantam Bearded Belgian D'Uccle, but he ended up with lice and had to stay home. YUCK!

Almost all of her birds placed in their classes, poor Cookie was the only bird that didn't place.

She had a blast. What a great place - to be surrounded by other kids that love their birds as much as she does! I was helping with the Peewee and Intermediate showmanship judging, so I didn't get to see her in her Junior showmanship, but she got second place. WOW! She must have been studying her Standard of Perfection book for her breed!

Her Black Spanish Hen took Champion for all the turkeys, and apparently was Reserve Champion for all the birds at the fair! NO WAY!
